I may have "loved" boys in high school and college but not the kind of love I feel now. I thought I would tell me and Rusty's story for those of you that haven't heard it. Sorry it may be a little long.
Back in 2004 I was going to school at Freed-Hardeman University. My parents had just moved to Lake Charles, LA. I thought I would come stay with them for the summer since it would probably be the last time I would live with them. I had full intentions of going back for my last year at Freed. Well that didn't happen.
The second weekend I was in Lake Charles, I saw this really cute guy in the back of the church. A couple of ladies had this great idea to try to fix us up. So they talked each of us into going to the youth devo that night. Poor guy my dad probably asked him 10 times "have you meet my daughter yet" that night at the devo. We finally had a chance to talk and he told me he would show me around town. So the next day he took me to the movies. I thought he was very hot & super sweet but I knew I was only going to be in Lake Charles for just a couple of months.. I tried really hard not to fall for him.
We ended up hanging out everyday that week except one. It was just something about him. He took my breath away. The first time he held my hand was at church on a Wednesday night during a prayer. It was at that moment I just couldn't hold back anymore. I was fallen hard for him and I had only known him for 10 days. That next day we decided to start dating.
Looking back now it all seems so crazy how fast everything went. We meet May 16, started officially dating May 28, then June 15 Rusty proposed. I know most people wouldn't understand and think we were just young and dumb. But I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Rusty. I had been in a couple of serious relationships and I knew what I wanted.
We decided to get married that August. I was going to transfer to McNeese and we didn't want to get married while I was in school. We didn't want to get married during Christmas time (My parents are always busy selling fireworks) and We didn't want to wait until the next summer. So we set the date for August 14. 2 months after he proposed. I must say it was wild trying to plan a wedding so fast. I had to make decisions fast. No I wasn't pregnant for those of you who are wondering. We just knew we wanted to be with each other so why wait.
We have now been married for 7 1/2 years. I'm not saying it has been all a bed of roses. We have had some very rough times, but through those times we have become what we are now. Some friends of ours decided to become facilitators of a class called Dynamic Marriage. No matter how great you think your marriage is, if you ever have a chance to take this class you should. It changed our lives. So a special thanks to Jason and Christine Poynter for offering that class and making my marriage what it is today.
